Moonlight Makers | Nicole Hairfield & Claire Watson | Asheville, NC
Fast Friends! Claire became Nicole’s neighbor in Asheville, NC and 6 months later they started Moonlight Makers. It was early 2015 and the first thing they did was renovate a short bus to sell their handmade wares from at festivals. Since illustrating their first design, “Let That Shiitake Go”, they have added 100+ funny and sweet designs to their collection. They would spend their days designing, their nights screen printing on the kitchen counter and the weekends at events in the bus. In late 2017 they opened a beautiful store in an old photography studio in Downtown Asheville and while shopping in the store you can watch all the t-shirts, tote bags and dish towels getting screen printed by hand right there on site. Whether you are into vegetables, puns, Bigfoot, mountains, mermaids, unicorns, craft beer, tacos, whales, soccer, bees, music, wine or cheese, there is a design for you. Now Claire and Nicole have 6 young children between them, and they get to spend their days listening to customers laughing, they hope you find the joy in their handmade products too.
Little Bee of Connecticut | Scott & Krista Priore | Southbury, CT
The premise behind Little Bee of Connecticut is a simple one: provide locally produced, distinctive products from the hive, while educating our customers on what we can all do to help support honey bee survival. All of Little Bee’s products are handmade in small batches, and only include simple, minimal ingredients. It started in 2012 with a trip to a Farmers Market in upstate New York, where an observation hive sparked a conversation with a local beekeeper. A few books on the subject, along with beekeeping classes through Flanders Nature Center and we were ready for our first hives. It quickly became apparent that beekeeping would become a passion versus just a “hobby”. The name “Little Bee” was a part of our family long before the beehives were. It has been our daughter’s nickname since she was a toddler, thanks to a walking and talking Winnie the Pooh toy. “Little Bee likes to go, go, go…” it would say as she chased it across the floor. When the honey bees came into our lives, she took an immediate interest and has actively participated in the management of the hives. Naming the business after her just seemed natural.
Designing Moments | Kace & Rodney Martin | Long Island, NY
Designing Moments is your home for handmade stationary and home decor, to help commemorate life's greatest moments, big and small. It all started when I got engaged and didn't have the means to plan the wedding I always wanted. To save money, I designed my own handmade invitations and decor for the venue. It was not only fun, but I loved adding a personal touch to my affair. My friends and family asked where everything was from and were surprised to hear that they were all made by me. This is how Designing Moments was born. After my wedding, I started creating invitations and thank you cards for others, and as I have started and grown my family, I started to incorporate pregnancy and baby shower cards. As more of my friends have gotten married and bought new homes, I started to create shower, wedding and housewarming gifts and incorporating them into my shop as well. Now I am happy to offer a wide range of products to help celebrate all of life's moments!
The Holiday Truck at Rockefeller Center Featured Makers
Hereafter | Yvonne Leung | Los Angeles, CA
Hereafter began with a simple idea, a unique wooden card, made to last. Yvonne started selling the cards at local craft fairs and then expanded to online shoppers and store owners. The reaction was a surprise and a delight. The encouragement she and her team felt during those first few years convinced them that something started on hope and possibility could become a sustainable business built on connection and meaning. Energized and inspired, over the last seven years they’ve grown their product line, created new designs and introduced special offerings that help people find gifts of love for almost any occasion. As a small business, they made things they hoped people would want to give. Now they’ve evolved into a more thoughtful brand focused on making things people want to give and receive, strengthening the connections that are important in their lives. It's an opportunity they welcome, informing what they create, how they produce, and everything it takes to build a culture dedicated to the experience of gifting with joy.
231 Designs | Hilary Mize | San Rafael, CA
Hilary Mize is a stay at home mom of two little ones, living in Northern California. She started her business when her first son was six months old, wanting to leave a career in outside sales and be close to home to raise her babies. What started as a "naptime hustle" has grown in to a thriving home based business, and she loves that during the holidays she is able to provide work to a group of local high school students, which she lovingly calls her "elves" to help pack and ship Christmas ornaments. All the ornaments and other keepsakes in the 231Designs shop are designed by Hilary, and laser cut and engraved in her garage workshop. They are lovingly cleaned, painted and packaged by hand. When she's not wrangling her kids or working in the shop, Hilary loves reading, being active outdoors, and, of course, shopping on Amazon.
House of Morgan Pewter | Kent, Martha, Amanda & Matt Morgan | Mount Airy, NC
House of Morgan Pewter was started in 1980 by Kent and Martha Morgan. They developed their art by reading a lot of books, gathering information from equipment companies, and from trial and error. Their determination and vision has created a successful small family business that takes pride in being hand cast in Wilmington and Mt. Airy, North Carolina. Now Amanda and Matt Morgan have jumped into the family business. They love to hear how special their items are to their customers and hope to spread the word about their special hand cast pewter "treasures", as their 4-year-old pirate-loving son calls them, to others.
Delicamade | Yihyun Lim| Somerville, MA
Yihyun is, an architect, designer, and a maker. She started Delica in 2008 after she returned from traveling and felt inspired to work with wool and fiber. It all started as a hobby, she made a few products for herself and friends. Slowly she shared her work online, and now it has become a successful small business. All of her products are handcrafted with care. Felted wool items are made from soft merino wool, which is then hand felted using wet felting technique. Inspired by nature, all other materials try to speak to natural materials - using cotton, hemp cords, and real acorn caps (collected by Yihyun in a nearby park).
