It was our honor to host the I Corps Commander, Lieutenant General Stephen Lanza, of Joint Base Lewis-McChord (JBLM), to our headquarters in Seattle. As a military recruiting manager at Amazon, my team and I work to support service members as they transition from military service to civilian life through our work with JBLM, the United States Joint Army-Air Force base in Washington.
On his tour of our urban campus, Lieutenant General Lanza met with our talent acquisition managers as well as participants in the 'Hiring Our Heroes’ and ‘Training with Industry’ programs designed to expose service members to corporate workplaces. These programs help to recognize service members’ ability to thrive in high-tech and in-demand careers – many of which exist at Amazon. We discussed ways the armed forces and companies like Amazon could further support these veterans and military spouses as they launch into a brand new career.
During his visit, Lieutenant General Lanza also met with high-performing veterans at Amazon to discuss the skills and experience that job-seeking service members need to emphasize to their hiring managers. This included Scott Ruffin, a former Marine and director of the Amazon Air team. He also got a behind-the-scenes look at Amazon Go.
We've been able to build some terrific programs with JBLM because of Lieutenant General Lanza's support. At Amazon, we're committed to hiring 25,000 veterans and military spouses by 2021, and the work we've been able to do with JBLM is a critical step. We look forward to the continued partnership with I Corps and the military at large.
