Delivering smiles all year long

All the ways we're making it easy for customers to give back.
on October 04, 2019
Today is World Smile Day. But at Amazon, we're inspired to deliver smiles in the communities in which we live and work, around the world, every day. In honor of World Smile Day, we're sharing all the simple ways you can give back through Amazon.
  1. Donating with Alexa

Customers who wish to make a monetary donation to select charities can do so by simply saying, "Alexa, I want to make a donation" on any Alexa enabled device. Amazon also gives customers special opportunities to donate items using Alexa during select shopping seasons. This back-to-school season, Amazon customers could simply say, "Alexa, donate to Happy School Year," to donate backpacks full of school supplies to students in need. Customers across the U.S. participated, and received a "thank you" message from Shaquille O’Neal who, along with Ciara, participated in donation events.
  2. AmazonSmile

AmazonSmile is a simple way for customers to support their favorite charitable organization, at no cost, when they shop on Amazon’s online store. When customers shop at smile.amazon.com, they’ll find the exact same Amazon experience—low prices, vast selection, fast and free delivery options and more, with the added bonus that Amazon will donate a portion of the purchase price of eligible products to a charity of their choice. There are more than one million charities involved with AmazonSmile, from national humanitarian organizations to local PTAs and pet shelters, giving customers a wide variety of options to choose. Thanks to our customers, Amazon has donated more than $140 million to charities through AmazonSmile.
  3. AmazonSmile Charity Lists

Charity Lists give charitable organizations an easy way to create lists of products needed, while providing a convenient way for customers to donate these essential items directly to the causes. Customers are able to contribute items that are truly critical, to charities they care about, no matter how big or small. Customers can shop thousands of Charity Lists by visiting smile.amazon.com/charitylists, with new charities joining all the time. For example, with October being Adopt-A-Shelter-Dog month, we’ve partnered with the ASPCA and local pet charities to create Charity Lists to help the more than 3.3 million dogs that enter shelters each year.
  4. Disaster Relief

After Hurricane Dorian, Amazon’s Disaster Relief team used Charity Lists, Wish Lists, Alexa Donations, and Amazon Pay to make it easy for customers to donate cash and needed supplies requested by nonprofits partners to support relief efforts. Amazon and its customers donated cash and more than 400,000 relief items, worth more than a total of $1 million, to provide relief support in the U.S. and the Bahamas. Since 2017, Amazon, its employees and customers donated an equivalent of more than $15 million in product and cash for 25 disasters around the world.

We love helping our customers give back—and Alexa Donations, AmazonSmile and Charity Lists are just a few easy ways you can do so. But we also realize that sometimes our customers themselves are the ones that could really use a smile. Our Social Media Customer Service team is deployed around the world to be the sounding board for customer experiences and works to provide fast solutions to customer needs. What you may not know is that as part of their job, these employees are also looking for ways to surprise our customers with thoughtful, personalized touches. We call it our Delighter Program and this holiday season, we’ll be on the lookout for even more ways to bring smiles to our customers through social media. Could you be the next Lucas, the “Prime Truck Kid,” this holiday?

We’re looking forward to seeing the inspiring ways our customers deliver smiles around the world this holiday season, and know our impact together will continue to grow because of you. Stay tuned over the next few months for more ways to give back.
