Amazon India legal team, in light of recent incidences of child abuse reported in Delhi, have been working toward creating greater awareness of child abuse. The team’s plan was to reach out to children, parents, and teachers to discuss the situation, educate about measures to protect child abuse victims, and help teachers identify signs of child abuse and support the victim in reporting crimes.

The Amazon India Legal team partnered with the office of the District Magistrate and HAQ to develop this program. Partnering with AZB & Partners, the team created training to address:

  • The Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (2012)
  • Access to Child Helpline and legal interventions for teachers to report incidents of child abuse
  • Teacher training sessions
  • A short, educational film translated into local language and handout literature in English, Hindi, Punjabi, and Urdu.

The program gave teachers an opportunity to ask questions and seek legal counsel from the Amazon legal team and members of the Amazon empaneled law firms. Teachers also heard from an adult survivor of child abuse who spoke about her experience. Teachers and Delhi Government officials expressed appreciation for the event and requested additional events across all schools in the state.
