Prime Free One Day

More than ten million products available coast-to-coast with no minimum purchase.
on June 03, 2019
As you may have heard, we are expanding one-day delivery with Amazon Prime. Today, Prime Free One Day is available to members with no minimum purchase amount on more than ten million products, coast to coast. Millions of members are already noticing and enjoying free one-day delivery right to their door, garage and even to their car. That means last-minute birthday presents, sunscreen and beach towels for an impromptu getaway, as well as closet organizers and cleaning products – all delivered the very next day.

Back in 2005 when we first promised to turn two-day delivery from an occasional indulgence to an everyday experience, we had one million items (primarily books, music and movies) available to ship to most of the country. Today, the most popular one-day items range from books, beauty and baby wipes to devices, dish detergent and doggie bags. In other words, Prime Free One Day is already 10 times larger than the original two-day offering launched in 2005. But we will keep adding more selection and expanding our delivery areas to ensure Prime members get their products faster than ever. Prime members will find that more and more items are being delivered in just one day.

We obsess over making customers’ lives easier, better and more fun with Prime. In fact, Amazon customers in thousands of cities and towns across 44 major metropolitan areas already have access to millions of items with free same-day delivery. Simply look for items marked as eligible for delivery today, order before lunch, and get them by bed time. For delivery in a matter of hours, members can also use Prime Now to receive grocery delivery from Whole Foods Market in nearly 90 U.S. metros, or grocery pickup in as little as 30 minutes in 30 metros, with more to come in 2019. We have also introduced multiple package pickup and return options to make delivery even more convenient, including Amazon Locker and Amazon pickup locations in towns and cities across the U.S., as well as in-garage, in-car and in-home deliveries with Key for Amazon.

One-day delivery news generated a lot of interest, so we want to take this opportunity to answer some questions below.
  1. When did this start?

We’ve offered increasingly faster delivery options for a number of years through programs such as one-day and same-day delivery, as well as one- or two-hour delivery with Prime Now. We significantly expanded one-day selection and the delivery areas starting in early April and we aren’t done. We will keep adding more products and expanding our delivery areas to ensure Prime members get their products faster than ever. We will also continue to offer Prime Now, same-day delivery, as well as millions of items for two-day delivery.
  2. Where is Prime Free One Day available today?

Customers across the U.S. may have already noticed expanded one-day selection when they shop. In Q4 we announced that we expanded same-day and one-day delivery to more than 10,000 cities and towns, and today Prime Free One Day is available on ten million products, coast to coast. We will keep expanding both the delivery areas and selection for Prime Free One Day.
  3. How many of the products that typically shipped in two days, now arrive in one day?

Prime Free One Day is available on more than ten million products today from Echo devices and headphones to household items and cleaning supplies.
  4. Is this a U.S.-only initiative?

Prime is available in 17 countries today, and the primary Prime delivery speed varies from country to country. For example, in the United Kingdom, Prime members most often see one-day delivery, and in Japan, Prime members most often see same-day delivery.
  5. How are you making one-day delivery possible?

Prime Free One Day is possible because we’ve been building our network for over 20 years, enabling us to create a world-class customer experience powered by incredible employees and great technology. We’ve strategically grown our network in the U.S. to include 110 fulfillment centers, 40 package sortation centers, 100 delivery stations, and 20 air gateways all to be closer to our customers. This allows Amazon to work smarter based on decades of process improvement and innovation, and to deliver orders faster and more efficiently.
  6. Are you offering fast, free shipping to Alaska, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico?

Yes, Prime members in Alaska, Hawaii and Puerto Rico can take advantage of free delivery with Prime. We have also been improving delivery speeds to those areas over the last twelve months. Shipping speeds vary between one-five days depending on where the products are coming from.
As always, thank you for being valued customers. We will never stop making Prime better in order to make our customers’ lives easier and also more fun. Stay tuned as we continue to expand Prime Free One Day!
