Alexa Prize is a a $3.5 million global university challenge to advance human-computer interaction (a.k.a. conversational AI). In this second year of the competition, customers are encouraged to engage and share their feedback.

This competition focuses on the grand challenge of building a socialbot that can converse coherently and engagingly with humans on popular topics for 20 minutes. Find out if your university is competing in 2018.

During this semifinals period, which started July 2nd and runs through mid-August, customer ratings will be the deciding factor for two finalists. The two teams with the highest average customer ratings will automatically advance to the finals. At least one other team will be selected by Amazon based on their socialbot's relevance, coherence, interestingness, speed and scientific merit.

You can help teams put their best bot forward, by chatting, rating, and providing your feedback.

  1. Try one of the 8 socialbots. They're selected anonymously and at random. Simply say “Alexa, let’s chat.”
  2. End the conversation when you want. When you're ready to end a conversation: say “Stop.”
  3. Provide feedback. You will be prompted to provide a verbal rating (one to five) and provide feedback - this should take about five seconds.
  4. Try another socialbot. You can try the other socialbots (selected at random), just say “Alexa, let’s chat,” again.

Teams will be able to use the feedback gathered to improve their socialbots. They are working towards the grand prize of a 20-minute bot conversation that is engaging and coherent on a range of trending topics.
